"Zu diesem beeindruckenden Setting steuert Evelien van Camp dann großartige Kostüme bei, die in ihrer viktorianischen Opulenz ebenfalls an einen Musical-Klassiker wie Sweeney Todd oder My Fair Lady erinnern."

The Lodger is an opera in two acts by Phyllis Tate · Libretto by David Franklin after the novel of the same name by Marie Adelaide Belloc Lowndes Emma Bunting, an impoverished landlady in Victorian London, takes in a distinguished lodger who financially supports her and her husband, George. It slowly becomes clear that the lodger is not what he seems, and his religious delusions point to psychological problems. As the situation escalates, Emma is tormented by the question of whether to report him to the authorities despite his illness. For her lodger is none other than Jack the Ripper. The story is rooted in Victorian society with it's strict moral code, so we chose to honour that in the costumes. The palette starts off monochrome with a very meaningful and intentional injection of colour to underscore the story telling.
